Congestion at Ward Office Counters

PSA Yokohama
2025/03/19

Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

19th March 2025

This week's edition is on useful information for making ward office Family Registry Section procedures easier.

Every year, during moving season from mid-March to early April, ward office Family Registry Section counters get very busy.

There can be a wait of several hours for reception, particularly on Mondays, the day after a national holiday, and on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, when the office is open.

We will therefore be introducing procedures that can be carried out without going to the ward office.

The first is submitting a "Notification of Moving Out of Yokohama City".

When moving out of Yokohama City, if you have a My Number card, you can complete the moving out procedure online. If you don't have a My Number card, you can complete the procedure by post. If you are moving out by post, please send the "Notification of Moving Out by post," together with a "copy of your resident card or special permanent resident certificate," and a "reply envelope" to the family registry section of the ward office where you currently live.

The second procedure is obtaining a certificate.

If you have a My Number Card, you can obtain one from a multi-copier at a convenience store.

It’s simple to do, and some certificates, such as resident certificates, are 50 yen cheaper than at ward office counters, and there is no waiting time. It is economical and very convenient, as you can obtain certificates even when the ward office is closed.

In addition to ward office counters, certificates can also be obtained at administrative service corners in 10 locations in the city, so please make use of them.

For details on moving procedures and obtaining certificates, see the Yokohama City website.
