Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
6th November 2024
This week’s edition is on the “Yokohama Meister Festival”
Yokohama Meisters are outstanding craftspeople selected by Yokohama City who contribute to the lives and culture of the city’s residents.
As representatives of the craftspeople of Yokohama City, they train future generations and pass on their valuable skills.
The “Yokohama Meister Festival” is a festival where successive generations of Yokohama Meisters gather.
This year, it will be held on Sunday 10th November, from 10am-4pm at the Yokohama City Skill and Culture Center and Odori Park, near Kannai and Isezaki Chojamachi stations.
Admission is free, so please drop by.
In the hands-on classes, you can experience a "pruning class" with a landscaping Meister, "Kumiko coaster making" with a joinery Meister, and "business card holder making", using Japanese patterned cloth, with an obi tailoring Meister. Some of the activities require a fee. You can experience the world of craftspeople, which is not something you often have the chance to do.
There will also be an exhibition and sale of works including kimono obis, copperplate art, washi (Japanese paper) envelopes, flower arrangements, and hand-painted scarves. The event will also feature seal carving, formwork construction, ironing demonstrations and stain removal by a dry cleaner, DIY and housing consultations, typesetting, operation of a brass model railway, stained glass, and more.
Food options for sale will include juicy hot dogs made by a meat processing Meister, sausage sets, stone ground coffee, shark fin rice bowls and shark fin curry, so don't miss this opportunity to visit the festival.
