Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

October is "Illegally Parked Bicycles / Motorcycles Clean Campaign Month".

 *If a bicycle or motorcycle is left on the road, it obstructs the passage of pedestrians and emergency vehicles, so it may be moved to a storage location.

 *Please park your bicycle at the bicycle parking lot!

In Yokohama City, there are many traffic accidents involving bicycles. 

 *To prevent accidents, it is vital that everyone follows the traffic rules.

Today I will introduce 5 traffic rules for bicycles.

 *Cycle in the same direction as cars and motorcycles on the left hand side.

 *Be sure to stop when there is a red “STOP” sign 

 *Pedestrians have right of way on the pavement. In the exceptional case that a cyclist is on the pavement, they should cycle slowly so they are able to stop immediately.　

 *When it gets dark, use lights

 *Do not use a smartphone while cycling

Also, are you covered by bicycle insurance?

 *When you ride a bicycle in the city, prefectural regulations require you to take out bicycle insurance.

 *Policies start at around 2,000 yen per year.

 *Be sure to take out bicycle insurance just in case of an accident.

 *Finally, to everyone who drives a car, the days get darker quicker in autumn, so please be even more careful of pedestrians.

 *Do not drink drive or allow others to drink drive! Let’s prevent accidents by driving safely!
