Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
26th June 2024
This week’s edition is on preparations for storm and flood damage.
Today, I will be outlining three important points to remember in readiness for typhoons or heavy rain.
These include advance preparations and precautions to take when fleeing.
The first point is to know the danger zones in your area in advance.
Use hazard maps to check in advance the hazards in your area and the evacuation sites that will be opened up.
The second point is to think in advance about evacuation.
Check if you need to evacuate to a place other than your home.
When considering where to evacuate to, include options such as hotels and the homes of acquaintances and friends in safe areas.
The third point is the timing of evacuation.
Please get updates on weather information and evacuation information at regular intervals, through television, radio and the internet.
You should also register for "Yokohama City Disaster Prevention Information Emails" so you can receive information including weather warnings and advisories.
To register for the English version, search for "Yokohama Disaster Prevention".
You should evacuate as soon as possible if your situation requires it, even if evacuation information has not yet been issued.
“My Timeline” sheets are available as a tool to facilitate the consideration of the aforementioned points.
“My Timeline” is a personalized evacuation action plan organized in chronological order according to each individual’s family structure and living environment.
You can download the My Timeline Creation Sheet from the city's website.
Please take this opportunity to get prepared now for emergencies.
