This week's edition is on an exhibition at Sankeien.

Sankeien is a Japanese garden located in Yokohama's Honmoku.

It was created in the early 1900s, over a period of 20 years, by Sankei Hara, a businessman who made his fortune in the manufacturing and export of silk.

Inside the extensive garden, there are 17 historical buildings, gathered from places such as Kyoto and Kamakura.

Visitors can enjoy seeing how they blend in seamlessly with the natural scenery of each season.

Now cloaked in the deeper greens of early summer, Sankeien is the venue for an azalea bonsai exhibition taking place between Sunday 19th May and Sunday 2nd June.

Approximately 40 carefully cultivated azalea bonsais are on display in the Special Exhibition Area of the outer garden’s central square.

The highlights of the exhibition are not limited to the colors, patterns and shapes of the flowers that differ according to variety…visitors can also enjoy the overall form and mood of the trees and the bonsai pots with which they have been paired.

During the exhibition period, consultations on bonsai techniques will be available at the venue every day, between 9am and 4pm.

And take the opportunity to see the azaleas that are planted in the gardens too.
