This week’s edition is on ‘Citizens’ Reading Activity Promotion Month and Yokohama’s Libraries’

November is Citizens’ Reading Activity Promotion Month.

Yokohama City libraries are holding a reading event across all of the libraries called “Autumn is for Reading”.

Each library is holding a variety of events, including special displays for visitors to enjoy, seasonal book exhibits, and story sessions for parents and children.

There is a Yokohama City library in each ward.

10 books per person can be borrowed free of charge for a total of 14 days during which the library is open. Books, magazines and newspapers in languages other than Japanese, as well as books for learning Japanese are available.

If the book you are looking for is unavailable, you can get it sent over from another library.

The e-book service, which can be enjoyed without visiting the library is also recommended.

The service allows you to enjoy reading anytime, anywhere, using a computer, smartphone, or tablet connected to the internet. There are English books, and books for learning Japanese too. Anyone with a library card can use the service free of charge.

Library staff are always happy to help you find books or look things up.

Please ask at the counter without wondering, “Is it ok to ask this kind of thing?”.

From Monday 25th December to Sunday 14th January, all libraries will be temporarily closed to update the library information system. New services will also be starting on 15th January, leading to increased convenience, so please visit.
