Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
2nd Nobember 2022
This week's edition is on a special public event at Sankeien.
Sankeien is a Japanese garden located in Yokohama's Honmoku.
Inside the extensive grounds are 17 historical buildings, gathered from places such as Kyoto and Kamakura.
Visitors can enjoy seeing how they blend in seamlessly with the changing natural scenery of each season.
Currently, a chrysanthemum exhibition featuring approximately 500 chrysanthemums is being held.
The event started on Wednesday 26th October and will run until Wednesday 23rd November (national holiday).
On display in the central square, are varieties such as the Ōgiku (large chrysanthemum), the Kengai (cascade), and the Kotengiku (classical chrysanthemum) from the ‘Yokohama Chrysanthemum Association.
The association has the top techniques in the prefecture.
Visitors can enjoy around 430 chrysanthemums in an abundance of colors and shapes: the ‘Ōgiku’, over 18cm in diameter, the Kengai, covered in flowers and shaped like a waterfall, and the ‘Edogiku’ and ‘Kotensangiku’ with their curved and folded petals.
And on Saturdays and Sundays during the event period, chrysanthemum experts will hold ‘talks about the highlights’ for a participation fee of ¥600.
In addition to this, inside the Former Yanohara Family Residence, one of the largest gassho-style houses in Japan and an Important Cultural Property, there will be a display of chrysanthemums arranged using traditional tools from within the building, by flower designer Michiko Igarashi.
The display period will be from Sunday 6th November- Wednesday 23rd November (national holiday).
Entry to the ‘Chrysanthemum Exhibition’, the largest in Yokohama City, is covered by the Sankeien admission fee.
