Yokohama Central Town Festival Y160” will be held on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May.
In 2009, Yokohama marked the 150th anniversary of its port opening. Since the following year, 2010, “Yokohama Central Town Festival” has been held as a port opening anniversary event leading up the 200th anniversary of the Yokohama port opening. It is held centering on 5 shopping streets that convey the history of the Yokohama port opening; Bashamichi, Kannai, Yamashita Koen Dori, Yokohama Chinatown, and Motomachi/Yamate. This year too, the 10th Yokohama Central Town Festival, “Y160”, will see events taking place across the 5 areas of the city.
At the main venue, “Yamashita Park’s Festival Square”, a food court made up of famous Yokohama eateries, dance and other performances on the Akai Kutsu stage, and the Y160 3×3 B Cor CUP” are planned.
Due to take place at the special venue at Yamashita Pier is the new project, “VANS Presents the Y160 Skateboard Exhibition”. As well as this, for children who are interested in street style sports such as skateboarding and BMX, there will be a riding manners class and an exhibition by professional skateboarders and BMX riders.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy concerts by artists from Yokohama City, such as Crystal Kay and Crazy Ken Band.
Since the port opened in 1859, Yokohama has built up a varied history and culture.
