Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

15th March 2023

This week's edition is for people who are moving house and will be about congestion at Family Registry Section counters, which handle ward office moving procedures.

Every year from mid-March to early April, Family Registry Section counters, which handle ward office moving procedures, get very busy, so you may have to wait over two hours. The counters are busiest on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, so it is recommended that you avoid those days or complete the procedures online.

For people moving out of Yokohama City, submitting the moving out notice online is convenient. if you have a My Number card, you can submit the moving out notice via the My Number Portal. If you do not have a My Number card, you can submit the notice via post.

And did you know that you can get certificates, such as copies of resident cards and seal registration certificates, outside of ward offices. They can be obtained at the 10 administrative service corners in the city or, if you have a My Number card, through the convenience store issuing service or online applications. And if you get them through the convenience store issuing service, the handling fee for some certificates, such as copies of resident cards, is 50 yen cheaper than at ward offices and administrative service corners, so it’s better value too!

The Yokohama City website provides information on the necessary procedures and items related to moving, so please search under “Yokohama City - Moving”.
