Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
31st January 2024
This week’s edition is on the Yokohama History Museum.
The Yokohama History Museum has been closed since October last year for mechanical equipment renewal work, but will reopen on Saturday 3rd February.
The "Yokohama Craft Exports Exhibition” will be held as the first special exhibition after opening.
In Yokohama, the opening of the port at the end of the Edo period literally “opened the port'', not only to trade with foreign countries but also to the variety of cultures that began to come and go, and products tailored to the needs of the time were exported.
This exhibition looks at four of the crafts exported from Yokohama to the rest of the world - Yokohama Makuzu ware, Yokohama Shibayama lacquerware, Yokohama carved furniture and Yokohama export scarves. Along with the products that "originated in Yokohama and went out to the world", the exhibition provides an overview of their history.
The exhibition period is from 3rd February to 10th March.
Admission is 500 yen for adults, 400 yen for high school and university students, and 300 yen for elementary and junior high school students / people aged 65 and over who live in Yokohama City.
This exhibition will be held at the same time as the 2023 Yokohama City Designated and Registered Cultural Properties Exhibition.
The admission fee covers both exhibitions, so please enjoy the two events.
It is a five-minute walk from Exit 1 of the nearest station - Center Kita Station on the municipal subway line.
